The Ohio Dept. of Ed. awarded the Milford School District a “Student Intervention Grant” that will help elementary students succeed.  The grant will provide before and after school tutoring for students in grades 1 - 4.

Each elementary school identified students in need of additional intervention to improve their skills in reading and math.  This program will provide for two teachers at each school to offer before or after school tutoring.   The grant will pay for teacher time, transportation, and supplies.  One of the perks of this grant is that it will pay for transportation costs.  This allows the district to plan for the program to run either before or after school.  With transportation provided, parents won’t have to be responsible for picking up their child after school or dropping them off early at school.

Students in grades 1-2 will get two extra hours each week in the computer lab working on a software program called Destination Reading/Math.  The program creates different activities for each student based on his/her strengths and weaknesses.  Students in grades 3-4 will get two extra hours of concentrated learning each week to improve their reading and math skills.  Teachers will focus on the 3rd Grade Reading Achievement Test and the 4th Grade Proficiency Test.

The tutoring will begin in January and continue through April.
